National board of representatives

This Board serves as the liaison between the Association and its members and top management of the departments and agencies in matters of intra-management communication, consultation, and dispute resolution. Members assist in coordinating Association business and meetings as appropriate. The Board is appointed by the president and each member serves until a successor is named.

In the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the structure of the Board is as follows:

  • Each FSIS District has a District Representative and an Assistant District Representative.
  • There is a Washington, D.C., Headquarters Representative, an Assistant Headquarters Representative, a Technical Services Center Representative and an Assistant Technical Services Representative.
  • Each three FSIS Districts have a District Coordinator, who also may be a District Representative or an Assistant District Representative.
  • There is a Chair of the National Board of Representatives, who may also serve on the Board in another capacity.
  • To the extent possible, national consultations involve the Chair, the District Coordinators, and the Headquarters and the Technical Services Center Representatives.
  • To the extent possible, district consultations involve at least two of any combination of the District Representative, the Assistant District Representative, and the District Coordinator.

In the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the structure of the Board is as follows:

  • There are two Regional Representatives for each of the APHIS Veterinary Services (VS) Regions. For each VS Region, there will be one Assistant Regional Representative.
  • There is a Regional Representative and an Assistant Regional Representative for APHIS Headquarters in Riverdale, Maryland.
  • Each three FSIS Districts have a District Coordinator, who also may be a District Representative or an Assistant District Representative.
  • There is a Regional Representative and an Assistant Regional Representative for the VS laboratories.
  • There is a Regional Representative and an Assistant Regional Representative for APHIS Animal Care.
  • There is a Regional Representative and an Assistant Regional Representative for APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine.
  • There is a Chair appointed, who may also be a Regional Representative or an Assistant Regional Representative.
  • To the extent possible, national consultations involve the Chair, and the Regional Representatives.
  • To the extent possible, other consultations involve the respective Regional Representatives and the Assistant Regional Representatives.

In other departments and agencies, the president may appoint representatives as appropriate.
